Esfuerzo y recuperación del viñedo.
Portal del Priorat es la bodega prioratina de Alfredo Arribas, arquitecto, quien en el año 2001 inició su andadura en el mundo del vino. Hoy le encontramos también en la tan próxima denominación de Montsant, con sus excelentes vinos de la serie Trossos. Con Portal del Priorat, Alfredo nos ofrece unos elegantes vinos de finca, de la finca Clos del Portal, con algo más de 40 ha de extensión, 15 ha. de las cuales son de viñedos de muy baja producción, aproximadamente 1 kg por cepa. Gran parte de estas viñas, de las variedades garnacha y cariñena, han sido recuperadas de bancales y costers abandonados; aunque también encontramos algunas cepas de syrah y alguna otra variedad experimental. El viñedo se trabaja según una viticultura orgánica y el trabajo en bodega persigue reflejar la expresión del terroir, realizando maceraciones cortas, con poca extracción, y una crianza muy respetuosa, un estilo de vinificación que busca la elegancia y una tanicidad sedosa. Las fermentaciones se realizan con levaduras autóctonas y los trasiegos sólo tienen lugar en contadas ocasiones. Clos del Portal está situada en el corazón del Priorat, posee un microclima diferenciado y asciende desde el río Siurana hasta las estribaciones de la sierra del Montsant, donde Alfredo ha sabido diseñar un edificio vanguardista perfectamente integrado en este espléndido paisaje.
Vinos de finca.
En poco tiempo, sus vinos de finca han logrado destacar como un claro exponente de la última generación de priorats, en pos de la elegancia y la sutileza. Elaborados con meticuloso perfeccionismo, interpretan un terroir extremo, de suelos y clima austeros, mostrando el camino del futuro enológico de la zona. Alfredo Arribas dirige la bodega y para ello cuenta con el soporte técnico de Joan Asens. Clos del Portal agrupa 40 hectáreas de pequeñas parcelas, todas en propiedad y en contacto entre si, de las que 14 son de viñedo. De ellas, aproximadamente la mitad son costers y la otra mitad terrazas. La importancia del suelo mineral, una base de pizarras oxidadas con sutiles variaciones de distintos componentes de suelo que confieren complejidad al conjunto, es el factor clave de la gran armonía que atesoran los vinos procedentes de las distintas variedades y bloques de viñedo.
Las variedades.
Predominan por este orden la Garnacha, con presencia de cinco clones recuperados, la Cariñena, la Syrah, la Cabernet franc y la Monastrell, junto con algunas otras variedades experimentales. La bodega vanguardista es un ejemplo de respeto al entorno al estar perfectamente integrada en el paisaje. Las instalaciones constan de 6 depósitos troncocónicos de 5.000 litros y una amplia serie de pequeños depósitos dónde se llevan a cabo las microvinificaciones, con las parcelas y los bloques por separado. La producción se limita a unas 30.000 botellas. Se elaboran tres vinos, monovarietal de una Cariñena de 100 años. Y también se elabora Gotes del Priorat, en el que se conjuntan cada año las parcelas de carácter más fresco y mayor viveza.
