Español [ ES ]Madame Clicquot nació en Reims en 1777. Como hija del barón Nicolás Ponsardin, su estatus social le otorgó una educación excelente basada en los valores y principios morales tradicionales de la época. En 1798 contrajo matrimonio con François Clicquot, hijo del fundador de la Maison Clicquot. François compartía con su joven esposa la pasión y los conocimientos acerca de la creación y distribución del champán. Gracias a este tiempo junto a él, Madame Clicquot pudo tomar las riendas de la casa familiar tras la muerte prematura de François en 1805. En una época en la que las mujeres no tenían un papel importante en el mundo de los negocios, se atrevió a asumir el mando de la empresa con pasión y determinación. Con su carácter audaz e inteligente, Madame Clicquot aprovechaba toda oportunidad, siempre dispuesta a asumir riesgos, y por ello pudo hacer llegar su actividad empresarial a todos los rincones del mundo. Era inflexible en cuanto a la calidad de sus vinos y perfeccionó nuevas técnicas de producción. Inventó la «table de remuage»,mesa de removido, para aclarar el champán y creó la primera mezcla de champán rosado. En unos pocos años convirtió su nombre en una marca de excelencia, una marca admirada a día de hoy. Su talento fue tal que sus compañeros la llamaban la "gran dama del champán".
Madame Clicquot comenzó seleccionando los mejores viñedos, incluido el famoso Cru de Bouzy, que proporciona la mejor Pinot noir con la que se elabora el mítico Rosé Clicquot. Tres lustros después mandó poner etiquetas en las botellas, una iniciativa personal con la que aportó un detalle anecdótico. Vender en esa época era muy difícil, y las casas de San Petersburgo que visitaban eran todas amarillas. Decidieron así hacer las etiquetas de ese color para honrarles, incrementando con ello notablemente las ventas. Además, en sus etiquetas y tapones podemos ver una estrella dibujada, que se diseñó para conmemorar el paso de un cometa en 1811, coincidiendo con una añada excepcional. Hoy, esa etiqueta amarilla es una de las más distintivas en los escaparates de las tiendas de vinos de todo el mundo. Los viñedos de Veuve Clicquot están entre los mejores "crus" de la Champaña. Las cepas de Villers Marmery, Avize, Oger, Mesnil y Vertus están plantadas con la variedad Chardonnay. Las fincas de Dt Thierry, Pargny, Villedomange, Verzenay, Verzy, Bouzy y Ay proporcionan la Pinot noir; mientras que el resto de la uva se adquiere a viticultores de la zona. Por su parte, los vinos que llevan la etiqueta "La Grande Dame" proceden exclusivamente de viñedos propios.
Como toda historia, la Maison Veuve Clicquot ha alcanzado grandes hitos en fechas clave. Algunas de ellas son:
1772: Fundación oficial de la Maison.
1810: Creación de la primera añada.
1811: Cosecha excepcional, logro que se atribuye al paso de un cometa y permite la producción de una cosecha que lleva por nombre "el vino de la cometa".
1818: Creación del primer assamblage Rosé.
1877: Introducción por primera vez de la famosa etiqueta amarilla.
1909: Se introducen nuevas técnicas para mejorar la calidad de los vinos. Se extiende el patrimonio industrial.
1972: Se crea la Grande Dame como homenaje a Madame Clicquot en el año de su bicentenario. Es un también un homenaje a las mujeres que se dedican con éxito al mundo de los negocios.
1986: El gran grupo francés de marcas de lujo, LVMH (que se estableció al año siguiente), adquiere Veuve Clicquot.
2010: Fueron descubiertas en un banco hundido frente a las islas Åland de Finlandia, en la desembocadura del Báltico botellas de champán únicos en el mundo, incluyendo 47 de Veuve Clicquot. Estaban en muy buen estado de conservación.
2015: Las bodegas "Cràyeres" de Veuve Clicquot son reconocidas como Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco.
