Los orígenes.

La familia Eguren, de origen riojano, descubrió Toro y ha permanecido en ella convencida del potencial de estas tierras y de la tinta de Toro, una uva con una gran estructura, capaz de transmitir la mineralidad de los suelos pero cuyo fuerte carácter hay que conocer y "domesticar". Marcos Eguren la conoce perfectamente y así lo demostró con los vinos de su primer proyecto en la zona, vinos poderosos, siempre sutiles y elegantes. Tras el devenir de varios años seleccionando los mejores viñedos y, a la vez, realizando algunas nuevas plantaciones en enclaves privilegiados, fue en 2007 cuando, con la destreza de 10 exitosos años cultivando viñedo propio y elaborando afamados vinos, emerge Bodega Teso La Monja. Una zona vitivinícola influenciada por la presencia del cauce del río Duero, complementada con suaves y ondulados terrenos y con un microclima especial con inmejorables condiciones para el cultivo de la vid. Una zona en la que la familia Eguren ha adquirido viñedos muy específicos de gran calidad ubicados con orientación norte en las localidades zamoranas de Valdefinjas, Toro y Villabuena del Puente.

Tinta de toro, la variedad autóctona.

En Bodega Teso La Monja tan sólo se produce una variedad, tinta de toro, autóctona de este territorio. Este tipo de uva cuenta con muy bajas producciones (cercanas a los 1.500 Kg/Ha) de racimos y bayas de pequeño tamaño que sintetizan una gran cantidad de polifenoles, lo que la convierte en una variedad propicia para la elaboración de vinos con una gran estructura y concentración aromática. Cuando en 2008 la familia Eguren vendió Numanthia Termes al grupo Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, muchos pensaron que eral el punto final de su aventura en Toro. No sabían que ya llevaba dos años construyendo el que sería su nuevo proyecto en la D.O. zamorana: Teso la Monja. Con 90 hectáreas de viñedo de entre 35 y 130 años de edad y unas instalaciones elegantes, sobrias y funcionales, la bodega toresana de los Eguren sigue demostrando que convierten en oro todo lo que tocan. Este nuevo proyecto de Marcos Eguren ha comenzado su andadura con un bombazo, Alabaster, que nació siendo uno de los mejores vinos de Toro. Con el tiempo, Teso la Monja ha incorporado otros dos nuevos nombres a su catálogo Almirez y Vitorino- más asequibles económicamente pero con la calidad habitual que impera en todas las bodegas del grupo.
