El Coto de Rioja es una bodega histórica que ilustra como pocas el espectacular desarrollo del vino español en el último cuarto del siglo XX. Fundada en 1970 por un grupo de entusiastas con cierta experiencia en el sector, pasó a manos del Grupo Barón de Ley, presidido por el gerente de El Coto, Eduardo Santos Ruiz. Esta nueva etapa fue, sin duda, la más fructífera de la bodega, convirtiéndose en una de las firmas líderes de la Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja. Las instalaciones de El Coto de Rioja se encuentran entre las más espectaculares de toda la Denominación y cuentan con un total de 120.000 m2. La firma cultiva 25 millones de kilos de uva anuales para elaborar una gama de vinos que en la actualidad suma nueve referencias: El Coto Blanco, Rosado y Crianza; El Coto de Imaz Reserva y Gran Reserva; Coto Real, Coto Mayor, Coto Selección Aniversario y Coto Vintage. Hoy día, EL COTO DE RIOJA es reconocida como una de las bodegas líderes del mercado español, y sus vinos se exportan a más de 40 países. A lo largo de su breve historia, la filosofía de los vinos de EL COTO DE RIOJA ha permanecido fiel a su planteamiento, de la misma manera que lo han hecho sus etiquetas y demás señas de identidad. Quizá sea esta fidelidad a la propia personalidad la que nos haya colocado entre los grandes de Rioja.

Apuesta por el crianza y reserva.

El Coto de Rioja, bodega fundada en 1970, es la marca líder del mercado español en las categorías de Crianza y Reserva. Su expansión es también mundial pues se distribuye a más de 50 países a lo largo y ancho del globo. Además, es la bodega con más hectáreas (730 ha) de viñedo propio de la Rioja, lo que permite un exhaustivo control de la calidad y una extrema regularidad en sus vinos. 8 fincas que ocupan suelos de las tres subzonas, aparecen cubiertas mayoritariamente de variedades autóctonas tradicionales que reflejan a la perfección el carácter de la denominación. Además de un buen número de hectáreas de viña vieja, El Coto cuenta también con el viñedo más alto de Rioja, Finca Carbonera, en un clima ideal para el cultivo de las variedades blancas y con Finca Los Almendros, el viñedo más extenso de toda la denominación con 450 hectáreas. La bodega original fue construida en los años 70 y ampliada 20 años después. Desde 1990 El Coto pertenece al grupo Barón de Ley y no ha dejado de crecer un solo instante. Actualmente, doce pequeñas bodegas, cada una con una función específica, trabajan conectadas para llevar los vinos hasta el parque de barricas más grande del mundo con 70.000 unidades. Lejos queda ya aquella primera vendimia comercializada en 1975, pero la tradición sigue siendo un valor fundamental en El Coto. Los nuevos tiempos han traído innovación y creatividad, como demuestra el enorme catálogo de la bodega, pero es la perfecta conjunción entre el hombre y el viñedo la verdadera esencia de la casa, la que permite mirar hacia el futuro con confianza.
