La aventura de un artista.

El proyecto de Vall Llach se fragua a principio de los noventa, cuando el cantautor Lluis Llach, después de una experiencia en la cooperativa de Porrera, donde se elaboró el renombrado Cims de Porrera, decide iniciar su particular camino y unir su nombre en esta aventura vitivinícola al del notario Enric Costa. Pausadamente van recorriendo los distintos parajes de Porrera, Priorat, pueblo natal de la madre de Llach, y recopilando los viñedos más viejos para conseguir una uva de calidad. Además, con el fin de complementar a la garnacha y la cariñena de viñas viejas y dar mayor complejidad a sus vinos, comienzan a plantar las variedades galas cabernet sauvignon, merlot y syrah. Actualmente Celler Vall Llach está dirigida por Lluis Llach y el hijo de Enric Costa: Albert Costa, que ejerce además de enólogo. La bodega está dividida en dos edificios: por un lado, La Final, una antigua construcción ubicada en la plaza del pueblo de Porrera; y por otro, Cal Valdrich, la bodega propiamente dicha, una vieja y noble casona reconstruida. Celler Vall Llach apuesta por la microproducción controlada de sus viñedos con el objetivo de que la calidad pravalezca siempre, manteniendo el control exhaustivo en cada uno de los procesos.

Los viñedos.

La bodega trabaja una selección de fincas viejas extraordinarias, los llamados "Trossos", viñas de entre 60 y 90 años de edad de Cariñena y Garnacha. Esto es complementado con una cuidadosa compra de la uva de fincas escogidas por su calidad entre las más antiguas y famosas de los términos municipales de Porrera y Torroja. Por otro lado, y con la finalidad de perfilar aún más la complejidad de sus vinos, Celler Vall Llach plantó a principios de los años 90 un conjunto de fincas con variedades que complementan a la Garnacha y a la Cariñena tradicionales de los "Trossos", principalmente con las variedades foráneas Merlot, Cabernet sauvignon y Syrah. Los trossos de Vall Llach han sido elegidos por la magnífica antigüedad de sus cepas y están situados en unos parajes de condiciones ambientales, orográficas, de insolación y altura envidiables. Sus pendientes impresionan la mirada impidiendo todo tipo de trabajo mecanizado y obligando al ser humano a mantener con ellos una relación íntima y exclusiva. Estas pendientes de pizarra, incapaces de conservar el agua de una pluviometría ya muy escasa, se adaptan a las condiciones de unas cepas centenarias soleadas obstinadamente por un clima seco y ardiente. Estos y otros motivos explican la concentración única de los granos de su uva.

Mínima producción con la máxima calidad.

Y por si fuera poco, Celler Vall Llach va más allá de su obstinación por la calidad rebajando la productividad de las viejas cepas, que difícilmente superan los 500 gramos, reduciéndola a unas cifras que se mueven entre 180 y 300 gramos. Ubicada en la plaza más emblemática del pueblo, "La Final", define la mayor y más vieja construcción privada de Porrera dedicada desde siempre a la elaboración de vino. Aquí, Celler Vall Llach ha instalado todas las estructuras, materiales y maquinarias necesarias para la recepción y la elaboración de sus vinos. Cal Valdrich es la bodega propiamente dicha, una vieja y noble casona reconstruida con sumo respeto a su historia y, al mismo tiempo, totalmente reestructurada para ponerla al servicio de un equilibrio ambiental, estético y climático inmejorable para el reposo y bienestar del vino en las botas. En este ámbito de extraños equilibrios, el único trastorno que se permite es el que se produce a la llegada, una vez al año, de las nuevas botas de roble dedicadas a la elaboración de sus vinos.
