Es uno de los mejores enólogos del país y un inquieto viticultor, carismático, genial e inimitable: Así es Miguel Ángel de Gregorio, el personaje que en los noventa lideró a toda una generación de jóvenes enólogos dispuestos a reinterpretar a los clásicos riojanos, partiendo de la base más elemental: La tierra y la vid. En 1986 llegó a Briones (La Rioja) y descubrió el terruño singular que siempre había soñado para poner en marcha su proyecto personal: Finca Allende. Empezó a comprar pequeñas parcelas de viñedo viejo, y a intentar conocer y comprender cada pago. Poco a poco fue encontrando su estilo, basado en la “expresividad del terroir”; un modelo de vinos muy estructurados con los taninos muy marcados, muchos aromas minerales (que era lo que nos daba el terruño de Briones), y en esa misma línea ha continuado Finca Allende a lo largo de los años. En 1995 Miguel Ángel de Gregorio elaboró el primer Allende. Después vendrían Aurus, Calvario… Vinos que buscan la expresividad de cada parcela, la singularidad de cada pago, y que ocupan los puestos más altos del podio riojano. Fue de los primeros en apostar por los vinos de pago; Calvario y Aurus han sido sus principales embajadores, y es un gran defensor de las variedades autóctonas y del trabajo en el viñedo. Recibió los primeros elogios por su gran trabajo en Bodegas Bretón, pero la fama le llegó definitivamente por los vinos de su propia bodega: Finca Allende.

La ubicación de los viñedos.

En un marco físico que abarca desde los meandros del Ebro hasta la llanura de Valpierre, las 56 hectáreas de viñedo de la finca se localizan en colinas con diferente orientación que captan toda la influencia de los vientos atlánticos. Los suelos, arcillosos, calizos y con un sustrato de gravas calcáreas, permiten el desarrollo de las raíces en profundidad y, con ellas, la extracción de sus elementos minerales. En ellos se cultiva predominantemente la variedad tempranillo y, en menor cantidad, la graciano, garnacha, viura y malvasía. Finca Allende responde al proyecto de vino personal que gusta de experimentar y desarrollar sin cortapisas las ideas de su creador. Con personalidad propia y fácilmente reconocibles, los vinos de la bodega poseen taninos muy marcados y una gran riqueza aromática que consigue transmitir toda la expresividad del terroir y la singularidad de cada pago, aportando rasgos distintivos como la crianza justa en barricas de roble francés o americano y el predominio de la fruta sobre la madera. Otros dos buenos ejemplos de la creatividad imparable de Miguel Ángel son sus proyectos, oor un lado, los de Finca Nueva, unos vinos de precio muy asequible, que pueden ser disfrutados en cualquier momento, y por otro lado, Paisajes y Viñedos, que son unos vinos muy particulares, de fincas seleccionadas, llenos de carácter.
