Historia de un nuevo proyecto.

Vino de reyes,rey de los vinos: Así denominó Luis XIV de Francia al vino aszú de Tokaj. Y con palabras igualmente encendidas han celebrado su degustación, a lo largo de los siglos y en los más diversos idiomas, personalidades eminentes en el mundo de la política, de las letras, de las ciencias y las artes. Los vinos de Tokaj han sido considerados desde siempre un preciado tesoro. Su larga historia coloca a este vino dulce de complicada elaboración en el pedestal de los vinos antiguos, en el olimpo de los caldos de culto. El prestigio de los vinos aszú de Tokaj, fascina a la familia Álvarez, que inicia en 1991, los contactos con el gobierno húngaro, una vez conocida su intención de privatizar la región. En 1993 Vega Sicilia funda Tokaj Oremus. A la tradición histórica de ambos vinos se suma la personalidad de la familia Álvarez. Pablo Álvarez, director general de Vega Sicilia, es también el responsable de este nuevo proyecto. Con gran atención y respeto se estudia el vino, su significación, la laboriosa elaboración, las prácticas históricas... También se busca un equipo de profesionales con experiencia y un buen conocimiento de las características de los vinos de la región. Siempre respetando las tradiciones de Tokaj, desde el momento de la fundación hasta la actualidad la familia Álvarez ha realizado en Tokaj Oremus considerables inversiones en aras de elevar el nivel técnico del tratamiento de la uva y de los equipos vinícolas, para elaborar los mejores vinos posibles. El objetivo de la familia Álvarez es devolverle su antigua grandeza a este viñedo, uno de los mejor ubicados, emblemáticos y significativos de Tokaj.

El producto estrella.

Vega Sicilia adquirió la bodega Oremus al gobierno de Hungría en 1993 con el objetivo de devolver la grandeza a los históricos vinos dulces de la región de Tokaj (nordeste de Hungría).Hoy, Oremus desarrolla una gama de vinos únicos en el mundo. En la cima se encuentra el Tokaj Aszú, elaborado con uvas afectadas por la podredumbre noble. Tokaj Oremus se abastece de viñedos de primer nivel cultivados con variedades autóctonas. La bodega emplea la gravedad para el movimiento de los vinos, y cuenta con kilómetros de cavas subterráneas creadas en el siglo XIII donde se alojan las barricas en condiciones inmejorables de temperatura y humedad.

Estudio minucioso.

Uno de los vinos con más reputación del mundo, el Tokaji, tiene en Oremus, bodega perteneciente al grupo Tempos Vega Sicilia, su marca bandera. Con una historia de mitificación bastante paralela a la que ha alcanzado Vega Sicilia dentro de los vinos españoles, todo el sector coincidió en lo apropiado de la adquisición de la firma húngara por parte de esta bodega vallisoletana. En 1993, tan sólo tres años después de la caída del comunismo, la familia Álvarez llegó a Hungría y fundó Tokaj-Oremus Viñedos y Bodegas. Las actividades de la propiedad se centran en Tolcsva, donde conectado al laberinto de bodegas subterráneas existentes desde el siglo XIII, en 1999 se construyó la nueva bodega. Los Álvarez dedicaron mucha atención al estudio minucioso y respetuoso de este vino para conocer su proceso de elaboración y su historia. También se esforzaron en conservar, en lo posible, la tradición cuando dirigió las obras de la construcción de la nueva bodega. Para la gestión del nuevo proyecto, que gira en torno a uno de los viñedos mejor situados y más simbólicos de la región, los Álvarez reclutaron a un equipo profesional que conocía muy bien el terreno, y buscó a un enólogo de la zona, experimentado y enteramente dedicado, para situarlo al frente de esta apasionante aventura.
